What is MegaBoard?
MegaBoard is a CGI based, threaded message board system which allows people to post and reply to messages right on the World Wide Web.

What do I need to run MegaBoard?
You need a CGI enabled server with PERL 4 or 5 installed. MegaBoard has been tested on UNIX (Linux, FreeBSD, etc.) and Windows (95 and NT) style servers, but not on MAC, or OS/2 servers, so it may not function there.

What are the features of MegaBoard?
Full Administrative Script - You never have to edit a file
Configurable amount of replies (up to 15)
Unlimited Messages

OPTIONS

How does MegaBoard differ from other Web Message Boards?
MegaBoard compares well to all the free message boards on the Internet. It has no HTML files (which can become cross-threaded), and auto archiving (which is not found on any free board). Although there are add-ons to many of the free boards, the added features only come close to what MegaBoard can do.

How do I read a message?
To read a message, just click on the hyper-linked subject of the message (from the list of messages) and it will load into your web browser.

How do I post a new message?
Click the hyper-link 'Post a New Message' (from anywhere you see it) and you will be brought to the Add a Message Screen. The three required fields are name, subject and message. If enabled, you may see fields for a link URL, a link name, a image URL and email reply. These fields are not required. However, if you do pick the email reply option, you must supply an email address. When you are done with your message, just click the 'Submit Message' button and the message will add automatically.

How do I post a reply to a message?
First you must read the message in order to reply. On the message screen will be a hyper-link which says 'Post a Reply' that you need to click. This will bring you to the the reply section on the message. You would then fill out this form and submit the reply with the same instructions as posting a new message.

What can I include in a message?
If the web master has allowed it, your message can include actual HTML which means you can customize your message as desired. Also, (if enabled by the web master), the optional link and image field are included for your message.

How do I see new messages?
On the screen where you see the Messages, just hit your Web Browser's reload button.

Why is there no reply section on this message?
One of two reasons. You are reading an archived message, which cannot be replied to, or you are at the maximum thread depth set by the web master.

Where did my message go?
If you posted a message and it vanished, it was either removed by the web master, or it reached the time period which the board is set to archive or delete messages on it's own. Note that even the archive messages will eventually delete.

How long will these messages be here?
That is up to the webmaster. He can keep messages active for any number of days he chooses, and then store them in the archive for as many days as he chooses.

How does this email replies thing work?
The 'send all replies via email' (if enabled by the webmaster) will email any and all replies to your posted message, no matter if your message is a new message or a reply to another message. You need only add your correct email address to the email box, and check the appropriate 'Send all replies via email' when you post your message. The only replies which you will not get are those posted by you (providing you still have the same IP). Just be careful of one thing: If you have already requested email within a thread, don't do it again or you will get mail twice. If you choose not to have your e-mail address shown it will not show up on the messages however you will still get the replies e-mailed to you.

Where can I get MegaBoard?
Well since it is not yet available to the general public, you can't yet (as of 06/20/07 that is). If you want to wait for the release, for now stay tuned to Scott's Script Archive.
